06/10/21: Falcs 4-1 ARU

Falcs vs aru, a game often filled with missed opportunities, and despite a convincing scoreline, today was no different.

The falcs set up with a high press, making it difficult for aru to play out the back. After some strong efforts from Joe Helm and Uj, our pressing paid off. The aru centre back was trotting forward with the ball at his feet through the penalty area, whereupon a rapid 5 foot 6 Jew slipped under the centre back's arm and dispossessed him, and was swiftly taken down for his efforts.

A penalty was awarded and out of deference to the shouty blonde man, Joe gave the penalty to the captain. Nick sweeney took up the penalty and (redacted). The game continued, the scores level still for some reason.

The falcs continued to dominate possession and chances created, but despite efforts from Joey, angus, Joe and pretty much everyone apart from Liam, this was to no avail. Oyare and Sam at the back consistently mopped up any danger and helped us onto the front foot. This did not stop a tireless Randall and Damo partnership who were looking to break up opposing attacks and switch the play going forward. The break finally came when Damo played a perfectly looped pass over the heads of the defenders, which found Joe, who rounded the keeper and found the back of the net. 1-0. After waves of countless attacks and excellent trickery by Uj and Angus down the left wing, and Joey and Marcus on the right, the half ended.

With a few changes at half time came a short but crucial drop in the falcs concentration and communication. A goal was conceded and aru sent many long balls forward but our very own ederson was to the rescue, moving out the penalty area countless times for no reason. As the game grew and the shouty blonde man returned, so did our confidence and desire to play around a perennially unfit aru team. Excellent link up between Ralph and Lucca led to countless opportunities, one of which was taken by the Belfast Messi himself to put us back in the lead. Again we were wasteful infront of goal. However, the falcs were given a boost by the supporting blues on the sidelines. Sonny was our most vocal cheerleader, replete with pink pom poms and fluffy headband, Matt's wet dream (Hawthorne, not the coach). This energy eventually found it's way onto the pitch. With the arrival of Joe Helm, we saw many attempts at nutmegs from 6 yards away, as well as some excellent cross field passes. Thomas Mash Edmenton was a handful for the aru defenders, making excellent through balls and attempting to recreate Thierry Henry's flick, which was dispatched by Joe who scored the most offside goal in the history of falcs but the blues were there with a rousing chorus of "no fucking way ref".

With a few minutes to go, Lucca received a bobbling ball from a corner which materialised into one of the best goals of the match. That was until Mr G&T cut inside and curled the ball into the top corner. The scorer pointed to the sky, dedicating his goal to the bouncers of cambridge, and with that the final whistle blew.
