23/10/24: Blues 2-0 Birmingham I

What a time to be alive!

Our pregame team talk set the tone for what was to be a hard day’s work - with Blatchy giving us directions on our low block and Harry being told he’s not gonna touch the ball much today. 3 minutes later, Harry pops up in the box and tucks away a goal on his Blue’s debut to put the boys 1-0 up. We were then faced with the challenge of keeping the Brum Boys from levelling the game. Our low block was deliciously impenetrable. Even Brum’s inverted fullback (very keen for uni football) failed to infiltrate our defensive system. If on the rare occasion they did, our rocks at the back (Browny and Hicksy) showed their stones and didn’t give anything whatsoever.

The second half came and we were faced with more of the same - little possession, lots of hard work, lots of fun.

Soon, the running started to take its toll. Tired legs - cramp - substitution.

Around 80 mins in, a corner was won. The classic Deniz-Aaran corner tactic was run successfully, though this time, for the first time, there was end product. A mesmeric run and megs directly from a corner by Aaran put the boys 2-0 up with a win very much in sight.

Special mention must go to Aram too, for producing a worldie to keep the stress levels down and some top distribution throughout the game.

A thoroughly enjoyable day of football and a fantastic result against a side yet to have conceded before today.
